books3.gifAgain there are five Northwest books are on this week's Northwest Bestseller's list. Two novels by J.A. Jance, a part-time Seattle resident, are on the list. Damage Control, her latest book set in Arizona and Justice Denied, her latest J.P. Beaumont book are on the list. Garth Stein's The Art of Racing in the Rain tops the list. David Guterson's The Other and Sherman Alexie's The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian are on the list.

Ferry Elwha towed to Anacortes

The ferry Elwha had to be towed to the Anacortes ferry terminal after its engines failed near Shaw Island this morning. A smaller ferry will replace the Elwha while repairs are under way.

Anacortes schools face higher costs

When it meets tomorrow, the School Board will consider a $28 million proposed budget that deals with decreasing enrollment and increasing costs. 

Computer chips planned for library books

2008-0805_library_rfid.pngThe Anacortes Library is planning to put radio chips in all their books, CDs and DVDs. The Library’s director says the so-called RFID chips, similar to this one, will improve security and convenience.

Four set for planning job interviews

Interviews are scheduled for later this week with four applicants for City Planning Director, according to the Mayor.

Newly-released documents detail officer firing

The Anacortes Police Department has released documents to justify firing a police officer for improper use of a city computer. The 573-page investigative file includes redacted copies of Web sites the officer visited & personal emails.
