Police Suspect Dies of Self-inflicted Injury While Avoiding Arrest

A 37-year old Anacortes man died of a self-inflicted injury as police were ready to serve warrants, according to a statement by the Anacortes Police Department. 

The police statement said that APD and other agencies were preparing to serve a search warrant on a residence in the 800 block of 30th Street at around 4:30 Wednesday afernoon when the suspect fled the residence.

Th police were planning to take the suspect into custody for multiple arrest warrants for serious felony charges.

The charges included first-degree arson, residential burglary, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm, and the suspect also had officer safety alerts.

But, the suspect fled and died of unspecified self-inflicted injuries. Officers did not use physical force, the release said.
