The city Planning Director Ian Munce says that significant erosion control improvements have taken place at the Skyline property of Bob Morand. He faces fines for failure to stabilize the hillside at Morand’s property at 4801 Anaco Beach Rd.

Munce told the City Council this week that he is “delighted to report that Mr Morand has moved fowrard with significant improvements to stabilizing the hillside.” He added that the Council can expect to see a good report in September.

The Council will discuss the matter in two weeks and decide whether to permanently suspend a $300 a day fine imposed earlier this year for failing to control erosion on his property. Munce said “The whole purpose of the penalties was to get action.”

Erosion has already taken part of a neighbors property and has threatened to damage Anaco Beach Road.

Morand earlier told the Council that he has had a tough time getting financing for his plan to implement erosion control measures and build three homes on the property.

Beach nourishment materials have been placed on the beach, the road has been covered with a protective layer of coarse crushed rock and other measures have been taken, according to a report sent to the city by Creative Engineering Options, Inc.
