New this week at the Anacortes Cinemas: Fame. The other 2 films, The Informant and 9, are holdovers. I hope they book Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

New this week at the Anacortes Cinemas: The Informant: Matt Damon is a slippery corporate whistler who fancies himself 0014 because he's "twice as smart as 007." Also on screen here: 9, Whiteout, & Inglourious Basterds.

The Sea, Within, a 98" tall fused glass and steel sculpture by Lin McJunkin of Conway, is located at Commercial Ave. at 32nd St. in Anacortes. Like all art in the new Commercial Ave. public art series, it is for sale. View The Big Picture.

Weekend Movies

The one new film on screen in Anacortes this weekend is Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds. The film to see if you're an adult is Julie & Julia and if you're a kid, then rush to (500) Days of Summer. Why the parentheses? I don't know.

Two new movies come to the Anacortes Cinemas this weekend, including well-rated (500) Days of Summer and the not-so-well-rated Time Traveler's Wife. That's Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel, above, in (500) Days of Summer.

Commercial Ave. art: Eve

This wire sculpture, Eve by James Lapp, can be found at the corner of 14th St. & Commercial Ave. in Anacortes. The artist told me the name is "Eve, as in Adam and Eve," but conceded it looks like an upside-down wine glass. And, it's in front of Compass Wines.
