In October the Anacortes Public Library Book Club will be reading Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann. The book club meets the fourth Monday of every month in the Library Community Meeting Room. Island Hospital offers low-cost cholesterol and glucose screening

Island Hospital is holding a cholesterol and glucose screening Tue, Oct 23 from 8 to 11 a.m. in the Health Resource Center, 1211 24th Street, Anacortes.

Requires a 12-hour fast except for water and medications. The cost is $10. No appointment required. Please do not arrive before 7:30 a.m. If you have insurance and are not on Medicare or Medicaid, we can bill your insurance directly for this screening. Please bring your insurance card. Hiking the Tour du Mont Blanc

Join avid local hiker Shona Martin, as she presents her hiking trip around Mont Blanc. The Tour du Mont Blanc is a considered one of the classic long-distance hiking trails in Europe. It circles the Mont Blanc massif, covering a distance of roughly 110 miles and passes through France, Italy, and Switzerland. Shona hiked this trail with two friends in September 2015, starting and ending in the Chamonix valley. She will discuss the accommodations, food, trail experience, and personalities they met along the way and will show pictures that highlight the scenery and adventure. She will outline how to prepare and plan a long-distance European hike.  Wednesday October 24, 7:00 pm at the library.

If you are a grandparent to young children or an expecting grandparent join childbirth educator, Teri Shilling on Thursday, October 25 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Island Hospital. The cost is $25/per couple or individual. Learn what has changed and what has stayed the same in childbirth, infant care and early development along with car seat safety. Registration required. Oct. 26, A Far Off Place (1993). Bat Cave Hike for all ages

Come to the woods for a natural spook time that will help transition us all to the nocturnal season. Our annual bat cave exploration is fun for everyone! Costumes and flashlights are welcome. Meet at the Little Cranberry Lake parking lot on the north end of the lake.
