Second Sunday Jazz

Sun. Apr 8, 2018 2:00 pm

Choroloco will perform a free, live jazz concert at the library. Choroloco is a Seattle-based acoustic trio specializing in choro, a popular and high-energy style of Brazilian instrumental music. Choro originated in Rio during the 19th century, as Brazilian musicians mixed European music and styles with Brazilian instruments and Afro-Brazilian rhythms. On traditional Brazilian instruments and the vibraphone, they perform classic and modern choros, jazz, and other Brazilian styles of music. Choroloco has been performing together since 2008. In addition to performing throughout the West Coast, they have hosted the biweekly community choro jam session in Seattle since 2013. This program is sponsored by the Anacortes Public Library Foundation Manieri Endowment. Sunday, April 8, 2:00-3:30 pm at the library.

Looking for Life, Somewhere Out There

Wed. Apr 11, 2018 7:00 pm

Join Dr. Marcello Coradini, Adjunct Professor of Space Systems and Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, for a presentation on the search for extra-terrestrial life. The only examples of living organisms we know developed on our planet. Looking for life outside the Earth implies looking for something that makes use of similar biology and environmental conditions. The discovery of a large number of planets outside the Solar System reinforces our hope that life might have developed somewhere else. However, the environmental conditions on the candidate planets may differ from the terrestrial ones. He will show how these differences may impact the development of an extra-terrestrial human being. Wednesday, April 11, 7:00 pm at the library.

ALKi Jones at The Brown

Fri. Apr 13, 2018 9:30 pm

Alki Jones will be playing at the historic Brown Lantern on Friday, April 13th, 2018. The Brown Lantern was established in 1933 and the venue bids well with band’s ability to put a new edge to old-school rock n’ roll. It’s hard to put a finger on Alki Jones’ sound. This Seattle-based band hits you hard with a rock band’s powerful grooves and killer guitar solos, strums easy and sings sweetly like a sentimental country act, and exudes the raw emotion and passion of the Pacific Northwest alternative/grunge scene. The Brown Lantern (Friday, April 13th 2018). 412 Commercial Avenue, Anacortes, 9:30-12:00 PM. 21 and older
