Adult Workshop: Heart-felt Ornament

Wednesday, February 2nd 6:00 pm - Live Zoom Class - Join us for a fun felting class! We’ll provide the wool; you provide the creativity. Library assistant Lisa will guide us through making a felted wool heart ornament that you can decorate with provided charms and thread. Show your love for a friend or sweetheart or hang it on your bookshelf to show love for your favorite book!  Registration required, space and supplies are limited. Kits will be available for pickup at the library during the last week of January. Visit library.cityofanacortes.org to sign up.    

@ Rockfish: Whistle Lake Jazz Quartet

The Whistle Lake Jazz Quartet (formerly known as TimE3Jazz) consisting of Tim Eslick, Andy Carr, Todd Anderson, Jamie Findlay bring a fresh sense of interplay to the interpretation of jazz standards with sparkling solos and careful attention to dynamics. Their eclectic repertoire ranges from sensitive ballads to driving blues playing compositions for example by Kenny Barron, Gene Harris, Bill Evans, George Cables, Wes Montgomery with the stylings of Kenny Burrell, Ray Brown along with original compositions.

The Friends of the Anacortes Public Library will hold open FriendShop days and a book sale on February 4th and 5th from 11 am to 3 pm each day.  February is the month to fall in love with an author or new series!  We have new titles and a new look.  In honor of Valentine’s Day, we’ll be featuring red bags filled with your favorite romances for you and your sweetheart. All proceeds fund the library’s book purchases as well as children’s programs and new books. We hope to see you there!

@ Rockfish: CD Woodbury Trio

CD WOODBURY TRIO - “Booty-shaking contemporary blues with wit and extraordinary substance” says Dave Rubin, a Keeping the Blues Alive Award recipient in Journalism. The CD Woodbury Trio have been performing in the Pacific Northwest’s top blues clubs and festivals since forming in late 2015. Guitarist, singer, and songwriter CD Woodbury plays a muscular, expressive style with no direct influences.

CD is always backed by a dynamic and musical rhythm section on bass and drums. Winner in the ‘Best Band’ category by the Washington Blues Society in it’s 2019 International Blues Challenge competition. From a reputation as an ace sideman and “The Northwest’s best kept secret” in the Pacific NW blues scene; CD Woodbury is emerging as an internationally recognized singer, songwriter, and guitarist. The CD Woodbury Band album “Monday Night!” charted internationally in its genre, including 30 weeks at #1 for the Roots Radio Report’s Washington State independent radio chart and peaking at #8 on the international independent blues radio charts. CD Woodbury has eleven Best of the Blues awards from the Seattle based Washington Blues Society including Blues Performer, Songwriter, NW Recording, and has won the Electric Blues Guitar BB Award five times in the past decade.

@ Rockfish: Heron & Crow

HERON AND CROW - Heron & Crow has played at restaurants, breweries and festivals all over Northwest Washington. They are a bluegrass/old time music band that relies on original tunes, brother harmonies and chestnuts from the classic recordings of the 1920’s through the 1960’s, and originals from band songwriter Steven Dolmatz. Their first album, The Big Sky, was released in 2014, and their latest album, Bird in the Hand, was released in December of 2018.

The band consists of Steven Dolmatz on guitar and vocals, Mark Ingham on mandolin, banjo and vocals, Julie Campbell on fiddle and vocals, and Angus McLane on string bass.

Umoja (Unity): Sustaining African Cultural Arts

In this interactive talk, artist Afua Kouyaté shares pieces of African culture and folkloric traditions. Using seven principles as a framework, Kouyaté tells the story of her life and of Africa’s rich culture to inspire you to root deeper through your own culture. Afua Kouyaté is a performing and teaching artist who specializes in cultural arts leadership. Registration required. Covid- 19 Vaccination & Booster Clinic

Friday, February 18th 10:00 am – 5:00 pm - The library is offering a clinic for free COVID vaccinations & boosters for all eligible ages, including adults and children ages 5 and older, on Friday, February 18th. Drop in any time between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. No appointment is necessary. Available vaccinations will include first and second shots of the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines, as well as the single first-time shots of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Booster shots of all three will be available. Thanks to Bird’s Eye Medical for providing this clinic.

PACIFIC TWANG - Pacific Twang features beautiful vocal harmonies and stellar musicianship. Its members hail from other highly popular local bands (The Walrus, The Atlantics, Fantasy, Free Harmony, Stirred Not Shaken, Stilly River Band) and the combined experience of this group makes for something really special.

Their song list includes fun originals and tunes from The Chicks, Little Big Town, Miranda Lambert, Niko Case, Kasey Musgraves, Emmy Lou Harris, Midland, Eagles and the list goes on. Pacific Twang will also surprise you with swampy versions of fun classic rock tunes. Based in Northwest Washington, Pacific Twang has entertained at festivals, street fairs, parties and clubs throughout Washington, Oregon and B.C. From sweet old-timey ballads to fiery boot stompers, you’ll be highly entertained and dancing all night.

@ Rockfish: Free Harmony

FREE HARMONY - Chuck Dingée and Sharon Mayson’s beautiful vocals are what make Free Harmony unique and a treat to listen to. They formed the duo in 2017 and have been busy entertaining people in the Northwest ever since.

A founding member of Bellingham’s popular classic rock band The Walrus, Chuck has been singing and playing in the area for over 40 years. He has an eclectic repertoire of hundreds of songs from Gershwin to Beatles to Pink Floyd.

Having sung all her life, Sharon has an incredibly smooth voice and performs in local Northwest bands High Spirits and Pacific Twang.

Together they play an entertaining mix of songs ranging from the 60s to present, by artists like Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Emmylou Harris, John Denver, Indigo Girls, The Police, Pink Floyd, Eagles, Bonnie Raitt, and many others. In March 2019, Free Harmony was opening act for the band America at the Tulalip and Legends Casinos in Washington state.

QUEEN’S BLUEGRASS - Hard driving, traditional bluegrass with roots reaching back to the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. Ernest Queen, our founder, was born and raised in and around Cowarts, North Carolina. As a young man, Ernest moved to Sedro Woolley, WA bringing with him the music he heard and played throughout his youth. For thirty years, Ernie and his band entertained audiences throughout Washington and British Columbia. Ernie passed away in 2015 and left us in charge of playing the music that he so loved. Queen’s Bluegrass is now based in Lynden, WA and plays throughout Northwest Washington.
