Join the library for our 5th annual genre night! This fall we'll be celebrating science fiction. Whether you're a Trekkie or a diehard Lucas fan, grab your costume and celebrate fandom at the library. This library-wide event has something for explorers of all ages and imaginations. We'll have scavenger hunts throughout the library, face painting with Class Act, a costume contest, snacks, and more. You’ll also get a chance to meet Chewbacca in the fur.
Join in Sci-Fi themed activities in the children’s and teen rooms; take photos in our Galactic photo booth; and once you’ve snagged the best costume prize, refuel your rocket at the snack station and go on a scavenger hunt adventure through the stacks.
We are also thrilled to announce that we will be displaying pieces by special arrangement with Skagit Valley sculptor Rik Allen. Allen’s glass and metal work focuses not just on exploring unknown space, but also to “open up the imaginations of viewers whose own narratives shift as their minds move from exterior perspective of these vessels, to inner possibilities,” which also happens to be a goal of the library.
Whether you’re looking for another excuse to cosplay, need a new selection of reading suggestions, or just want to see lightsabers in the library, don’t miss this exciting night of Sci-Fi fun!
This all-ages event highlights the library as a place of new discovery and fun, as well as education. Libraries are places of learning and imagination, and what better way to embrace that combination than with a Sci-Fi celebration? The Anacortes Public Library is your destination for learning, discovery, and imagination yesterday, tomorrow, and beyond. Get in your TARDIS, DeLorean, rocket ship or drone and stop into the library on November 16th to be transported to galaxies near and far. Costumes are encouraged, but not required.
