Wounded veteran finds inspiration in memorial plaza

Retired Army Major Scott Smiley recently visited the Veterans Memorial Plaza at Anacortes High School’s Seahawk Stadium. Smiley was wounded in Iraq in 2005 when a roadside bomb left him completely blind.

Two Council candidates face no opposition

Of the four seats on the City Council up for election this year, two candidates, incumbent Liz Lovelett and newcomer Anthony Young, are running unopposed. Mayor Laurie Gere also has no opposition in her bid for re-election as mayor.
