Police responded to a string of seven vehicle prowls that occurred in the 3900 block of W.12th St, the 4200 block of Bryce Drive, the 4100 block of R Avenue, and the 3700 block of W. 5th Street.
In the incident on Monday, April 23, all of the involved vehicles had been left unlocked and were rummaged through. Items stolen from the vehicles included a purse containing credit cards and a cell phone, a Garmin brand GPS, multiple cell phone chargers, sunglasses, and a small tool kit. Police encourage people to lock their vehicles.

Friday, April 19
3:29 pm. A 32-year-old Anacortes woman was booked into jail on domestic violence assault charges after she allegedly knocked a computer out of her boyfriend’s hands causing the man’s finger to get cut and bleed. The couple had been arguing about the man’s desire to end their relationship and the man had been trying to remove some of his property from their residence in the 1300 block of N Avenue. The man said that the argument had become heated to where the woman smacked a laptop computer he was trying to leave with out of his hands onto the floor. The action caused his index finger to be cut. The woman told police that she was upset because the man had broken up with her “for no reason” and that she had stood between him and the door. The woman claimed that the man had “dropped” the computer and she denied having done anything to injure him.
11:26 pm. A 16-year-old Anacortes girl who had been reported as a runaway a short time earlier was located at a home in the 500 block of O Avenue and taken into protective custody. The girl smelled of intoxicants and her eyes were watery and bloodshot. When the girl was taken home by an officer, her mother immediately accused her of having been drinking. The girl denied having been drinking, but she provided a portable breath test that showed she had a significant amount of alcohol in her system. The girl was later referred to juvenile court on charges of underage drinking.
Saturday, April 20
1:17 am. An officer stopped a vehicle in the 1200 block of Dakota Avenue as it had expired license tabs and was weaving over the center and fog lines. The driver was identified as a 23-year-old Anacortes man who had bloodshot droopy eyes, was shaking, and had the odor of intoxicants and burnt marijuana. The man denied having been drinking, but did admit that he had smoked a “full joint” earlier in the evening. The man also had snack food chip crumbs covering his shirt and lap. The man performed poorly on field sobriety tests but refused to give a portable breath test. The man was placed under arrest and taken to the hospital where a blood draw was completed. The man faces possible charges of driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs upon return of the blood results from the State Toxicology lab.
3:15 am. An officer attempted to stop a vehicle on State Route 20 after watching it weaving over the fog and lane divider lines and traveling at about 30 miles per hour. The vehicle initially failed to stop for the patrol car’s emergency lights and siren before finally exiting the highway at Fidalgo Bay Road. The officer approached and instructed the driver to turn off his engine, but the driver turned off his headlights instead. The driver smelled strongly of intoxicants and had very slurred speech. When asked for his license, the driver handed the officer a credit card. When asked a second time, the driver handed the officer his Costco card. He finally found his license which identified him as a 29-year-old Sedro-Woolley man and said that he had been drinking at a downtown bar. The man had very poor balance and failed field sobriety tests. He was placed under arrest for drunk driving and taken to the police station where he attempted to get out of the patrol car while still being seat belted. The man provided breath samples that were approximately twice the legal limit. He was issued a criminal citation for DUI and released to a sober family member.
Sunday, April 21
5:39 pm. Police arrested a 21-year-old Anacortes woman at a home in the 1200 block of 4th Street as she had five outstanding warrants stemming from charges that included theft, disorderly conduct, possession of stolen property, possession of a legend drug without a prescription, and possession of drug paraphernalia. A 19-year-old Anacortes woman was also arrested at the home as she had two warrants for previous charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and theft. Both women were booked into the county jail.
7:09 pm. A 26-year-old Anacortes man was issued court summons for two counts of resisting arrest after he fled from officers in the 1100 block of 34th Street. Police had received a report that the man was possibly selling drugs in the area and were aware that he had warrants for his arrest for hit and run, assault, and indecent exposure charges. Police arrived and were alerted that the man was inside of an apartment and an officer saw him breaking the screen on a second story window in an effort to flee outside. The man retreated back inside and then jumped out of a different second story window and fled on foot while ignoring commands to stop. The man was located in a neighboring yard moments later but again took off running when he saw police. The wanted man had friends at the second home and they would not disclose where the man had possibly fled.
7:09 pm. A 38-year-old Anacortes woman was arrested a storage facility in the 8800 block of S. Marches Point Road for having an outstanding warrant from a previous possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia charge. An officer who was checking on suspicious activity at the facility recognized the woman and knew she had the warrant. The woman was booked into the county jail.
Monday, April 22
12:32 am. An officer recognized a 23-year-old Burlington man who walked towards the back of a home in the 1500 block of 32nd Street and confirmed that the man had several warrants for his arrest, including a felony warrant for possession of a controlled substance that had a 30 day jail commit. Police spoke with a woman at the home who informed them that the man was not supposed to be there. The woman heard noise coming from the garage and allowed police to check the garage. The man was found hiding between some mattresses and placed under arrest. A backpack was located near where the man had been hiding. The backpack was filled with jewelry belonging to the woman and her grandmother who also lived at the house. Police confirmed that the man did not have permission to be at the residence or take any jewelry. The man admitted that he had stolen several items from the home in the previous months and hidden them in the garage. The man was booked into jail on the warrants and faces possible new charges of burglary and possession of stolen property.
12:23 pm. A black Huffy cruiser style bicycle with whitewall tires was stolen from outside of a home in the 1900 block of 12th Street.
12:28 pm. A large screen television, a Blue-Ray player, and a stereo tuner were stolen from a home 3300 block of W. 3rd Street while the resident was away. There was no sign of forced entry into the home and the back door was found unlocked. The resident was positive the door had been locked when he left.
2:21 pm. Police are investigating the theft of approximately $2,000 of assorted tools and equipment from a shop in the 1000 block of 12th Street. The business owner reported he had rented the shop to an Anacortes man and that the tools had disappeared after the renter moved out unexpectedly. The theft is under further investigation.
Tuesday, April 23
1:53 am. An officer arrested a 24-year-old Anacortes man out of a car he had stopped for speeding on State Route 20 near Reservation Road after confirming he had an outstanding warrant for theft out of Burlington. The man told police that he was aware of the warrant. When the man was searched, police found a used syringe and a spoon with what appeared to have heroin residue on it. The man claimed that he had not used heroin in two months, but that spoon would probably test positive for heroin residue. He was issued a criminal citation for possession of drug paraphernalia and released on the warrant as the jail would not take him for booking due to overcrowding.
11:22 pm. A 50-year-old Anacortes woman was transported to the emergency room for treatment after a family member reported the woman had been taking prescription medication and drinking alcohol. The woman smelled of intoxicants and admitted that she had taken several pills. She denied that she was suicidal but did say that she “didn’t want to hurt anymore.”
Wednesday, April 24
5:54 am. Police responded to a home in the 4100 block of Oakes Avenue regarding an argument between a woman and her 21-year-old boyfriend. It was determined that the argument had been verbal only, but the man had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for failing to appear in court on a drunk driving charge. The warrant had a $25,000 bail. The man was arrested and booked into jail on the warrant.
4:39 pm. A 42-year-old transient male from Oregon was caught by employees shoplifting at a grocery store in the 900 block of 11th Street after he was seen stuffing packages of candy down his pants. The man fled on a bicycle north on Commercial Avenue but was caught by an employee after crashing his bike. The man told police he was a severe drug addict. Officers checked the bike the man was riding and learned that it had been reported stolen out of Everett. The store did not want to pursue theft charges, but the man was issued a criminal citation charging him with possession of stolen property. The bike was seized as evidence.
Thursday, April 25
6:32 am. Someone entered an apartment in the 900 block of 25th Street and stole a laptop computer valued at $500 while the resident had been away for a few hours. There was no sign of forced entry into the apartment and the victim was positive that the doors had all been locked. There are no suspects at this time.
10:25 am. An Anacortes girl secured her purple-and-white colored Nex brand mountain bike with a cable lock to a light pole in a parking lot in the 2800 block of Commercial Avenue and then returned a couple of hours later to find the bike and lock both missing. The bike was unique in that it had a bright purple gel seat with Hawaiian flowers on it. The thief is unknown.
5:37 pm. A resident of the 2400 block of 29th Street returned home to find a window had been broken and her house had been ransacked and numerous items strewn about. Several items were discovered to have been stolen including a Samsung laptop computer, a Panasonic brand camera, an Apple iPod Touch media player, and over $100 in cash. The loss was estimated at over $1,200.
Friday, April 26
12:14 am. An officer stopped a car in the 700 block of 34th Street after watching it weaving in and out of its lane of travel numerous times on State Route 20. The driver was identified as a 22-year-old Anacortes woman. She smelled of intoxicants, had slurred speech, and droopy bloodshot eyes. When asked how much she had to drink, the woman answered, “Only a few.” The woman was unsteady on her feet and failed field sobriety tests. She was placed under arrest for drunk driving and processed at the police station where she provided breath samples that were well over twice the legal limit. After being cited for DUI, she was released to a sober relative.
4:26 am. Officers responded to the report of two suspicious men with flashlights behind a business in the 1800 block of Commercial Avenue. Investigation revealed that the men, a 31-year-old Friday Harbor resident and a 38-year-old Bellingham resident, had been cutting parts off old appliances belonging to one business and removing recycled computer parts from a bin belonging to a second business in order to obtain scrap metal. They did not have permission to remove any of the items. Both men were arrested and charged with two counts of malicious mischief.
7:38 am. A Coach-brand wallet containing the victim’s drivers license, military ID, checkbook, and credit cards was stolen out of a vehicle parked at a home in the 1500 block of 17th Street. A small amount of loose change was also stolen. The victim believed she had inadvertently left her doors unlocked as there was no sign of forced entry.
