More than 50 Anacortes High School graduates received scholarships worth a total of nearly $100,000 at this week’s scholarship ceremony hosted by the Anacortes Schools Foundation. After the ceremony, the students gathered on stage for a group photo.
During the Brodniak Hall ceremony Wednesday night, Jeff Gabert, Shell Puget Sound Refinery’s communication and social performance manager. said, “These scholarships are not giveaways. They are an investment – one of the best we can make.,”
Anacortes High School senior Liam Darrow, who received the Nathan Estvold Memorial Scholarship, said, “Nathan’s family has honored his bond with the community. To be a part of the immense love his family and this community have for him feels very good. I am grateful.”

The Anacortes Schools Foundation is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) volunteer organization which functions independently of the school district for the benefit of students, educators, and community. Created in 1984 from just one family's donation, ASF now manages more than $1.8 million in endowments and distributes more than $95,000 in annual scholarships.
