Port concept moves ahead

2013-0305-port draft planMore than 50 people attended the Port’s third public forum on the future of the north and west basin areas of Cap Sante Marina. The next session will be April 8th, when the Port Commissioners meet with the City Council.

During the forum last weekend, much of the discussion focused on an event center proposed near the junction of Ninth St., R Ave. and Market St. That intersection would be closed under the draft proposal to allow for a public plaza.

The plan calls for an amphitheater, an events center, a small dog park, a children’s play area and so-called multi-use buildings nearby.

I’ve posted a PDF of the draft concept.

The draft concept was presented by Julie Bassuk and Rachel Miller of Makeers Architecture of Seattle, contractors for the Port. During the three public forums, they have presented several different concepts.

They reported the top priorities as voted on by attendees at the second forum..

  1. Launch non-motorized boats
  2. Walk
  3. Dine
  4. Attend a concert
  5. Attend an event or festival

The Port will now meet to discuss plans on April 8 in a joint session with the City Council.
