The ferry Hyak has been pulled from service and will enter a drydock at Dakota Creek on Monday to get an exterior paint job. The boat lately has been sailing Puget Sound with rust on one side.

The Hyak is expected to return to service in the San Juan Islands late in January. The state tries to paint its ferries about every 7 years to help protect them from corrosive saltwater.
