The fee the Anacortes Library charges library users who live outside the city will go up $1 per quarter, starting with the first of the year.
The increase, amounting to about 5 percent, brings the fee to $20 per quarter or $80 per year. Currently, the library charges $76 per year for nonresidents. The fee covers the individual purchasing the nonresident card as well as family members.
The library is funded through taxes paid by city residents and property owners. The non-resident fee is about one-half the among a city resident pays toward funding the library.
The nonresident library card makes all materials and services provided to residents available, including checking out books, magazines, music, movies and audiobooks, as well as the downloading of audiobooks through the library's Web site.
A card is not required to use other services, such as Internet access, research and word-processing computers, Wi-Fi service, study rooms for small groups and the community meeting room for large groups.
