Island Video is closing

The owners of Island Video have decided to shut down after trying for a year to sell the small business. Island Video will close at the end of this month.

Rebecca and Brian Hobbs bought the business in early 2006 with the intent to keep it from closing. Rebecca Hobbs told the Anacortes American that the store has been breaking even for the two years they’ve owned it.

She said they had several nibbles, but no one was able to finance it.

Blockbuster, with a store on Commercial Ave., and Netflix have made owning independent video stores increasingly difficult.

Island Video will sell off it’s inventory this month.
