An Anacortes Police Department Auxiliary Patrol car used by volunteers was ‘crushed’ when it was struck by an errant motorist.

Just after 8:30 on Wednesday morning, a white Chevy Suburban traveling southbound on M Avenue in front of the middle school, drifted off the roadway to the east and struck an unoccupied APD Auxiliary Patrol car. There were no injuries. There is no suspected alcohol or drug involvement.

About 8:40 on Sunday night, an APD Officer was dispatched to a local retailer for a possible theft in progress. The officer interviewed a store employee who told her that customers described the suspect as a female with a large purse that was bulging due to being full of store items she packed in it. The officer contacted the 19-year old suspect in the back of the store and she appeared very nervous, stating that she had just been in trouble for theft in another town. A search of her purse revealed a small pouch containing suspected methamphetamine. She was taken into custody and placed in a patrol car. After officers completed their investigation, the woman was released from the scene with a copy of a trespass notice from the store and told to watch her mail for possible drug charges.

An Anacortes Police Officer was dispatched to 11th ST and O Avenue on Monday afternoon per the report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, the officer approached a 34-year old Burlington man who appeared very nervous and later admitted that he did not have a driver’s license or insurance on his vehicle and he had just struck a vehicle that did not yield the right of way and drove right in front of him. A records check also revealed that the man had a misdemeanor warrant for reckless driving out of Mount Vernon Municipal Court. He was taken into custody, booked and released on his warrant, and given a copy of his driving with license suspended citation and infraction for no insurance. The officer then contacted the 16-year old female driver of the other vehicle and gave her an infraction for failure to yield right of way. There were no injuries.

Two concrete lions, valued at approximately $275 each, were stolen from a residence on the 2200 block of R Avenue sometime over the weekend. The victim thinks more than one person would have to be involved since each statue weighs over 250 pounds. There are no suspects.

Early Monday afternoon, an APD Officer was dispatched to 12th and Commercial Ave. per the report of a man screaming at and hitting a vehicle windshield. Investigation on scene revealed that the 31-year old Anacortes suspect approached his ex-girlfriend’s car, kicked off the rearview mirror, and began punching the windshield. He was taken into custody and booked in jail on a malicious mischief, domestic violence charge.

Just after 8PM on Tuesday evening, an APD Officer on patrol on westbound SR 20 observed a Honda Civic emitting dark black smoke. The officer pulled the vehicle over to speak with the female driver about the vehicle issue. Also in the car was a 29-year old male from Anacortes known to police. A records check revealed that he had two Skagit County District Court warrants for his arrest and he was taken into custody without incident and transported to the police department. The jail declined to accept the man, so he was booked and released from the scene after promising to show up for his upcoming court date.

A 27-year old Anacortes woman was arrested for driving with license suspended late Tuesday night. An APD Officer contacted her while driving on SR 20 with a burned out headlight. The woman provided her driver license and a records check revealed that it was suspended as of August 7. She was taken into custody, placed in a holding cell at APD, and later given a courtesy ride to her residence within the city.

At midnight on Wednesday morning, an APD Officer driving northbound on the 500 block of Commercial Avenue heard an older model BMW he had just passed rev its engine loudly and quickly drive away from the area. The officer turned around and, with the help of another officer already in the area who observed the car traveling approximately 10mph over the posted 20mph speed limit, pulled the vehicle over at 18th and Commercial Ave. The 29-year old man driving the vehicle was very slow and deliberate in his movements and smelled strongly of alcohol. He refused to take roadside tests or provide a breath sample, but was taken into custody for suspected DUI. He was later taken to the hospital for a blood draw and released with a copy of his citation and a speeding ticket.

An intoxicated 17-year old juvenile was arrested just after 4AM on Wednesday for minor in possession. A “D” Avenue resident called police a few moments earlier to report that the juvenile, unknown to them, was in their back yard. Police arrived and contacted the suspect who did not seem to know how he had gotten there. He was given a courtesy transport to the hospital to be medically assessed and released.

A 23-year old Sedro-Woolley woman was arrested by an officer who recognized her while on patrol in the 1000 block of Q Avenue. A records check revealed that she had a Superior Court Warrant for possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. She was later booked in the Skagit County Jail on her warrant.

At 2AM on Friday morning, an APD Sergeant on patrol on 12th Street drove through the area of a 24-hour convenience store and observed a man leave and re-enter the store upon the officer’s arrival. The Sergeant went into the building to investigate and contacted a 30-year old male who had a felony warrant for Violation of the Uniform Controlled Substances Act. He was taken into custody and placed in a patrol car, then driven to the jail where he was booked on his warrant.

A resident from Skyline Way called police on Thursday morning to report an unauthorized tan sedan that was parked in a multi-unit residential parking area all night. An officer responded and spoke with two men who were sleeping in the vehicle. They were advised that it was illegal to sleep in their vehicle within city limits. A records check of the men revealed that the 24-year old had 4 arrest warrants. He was taken into custody without incident and booked in the Skagit County Jail.
