Guitarist Steven Dolmatz discusses the history of jazz guitar from its beginnings in the 1920’s to today’s practitioners. He covers the development of guitar technique and innovation over time, complete with recordings of classic milestones of great players from Eddie Lang, Charlie Christian and Django Reinhardt to Wes Montgomery, Emily Remler and Bill Frisell. This event is sponsored by the Anacortes Library Foundation Manieri Endowment.

Big Beaver Pond Hike for Adults

Join the Friends of the Forest on Friday, Friday, April 14th from 10am until noon.
This gentle, just over one mile hike will lead us past three distinct wetlands and through two watersheds. You will come to know the qualities of a marsh, swamp, bog, and fen. We will explore the role of our resident beaver families in creating and sustaining this rich habitat within the ACFL.  Enjoy this excellent birding opportunity. Meet at the end of 32nd St west off of D Ave.

Tesoro EIS open house

The Tesoro Anacortes Clean Products Upgrade Project (CPUP) draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is now available for review and comment. Comments received on the draft EIS will be compiled, reviewed and considered by Skagit County. A final EIS will then be prepared. Comments must be submitted no later than May 8, 2017.

Skagit County is overseeing the preparation of an EIS for the Tesoro Anacortes CPUP. Tesoro is proposing additions and upgrades to their existing facility in order to produce 15,000 barrels per day of mixed xylenes and to supply cleaner local transportation fuels.

We would like to hear from you. The public plays an essential role in the Tesoro Anacortes CPUP EIS process. There are several ways to learn more about the project and submit your comments.

Understanding the geology, substrate and topography of the Salish Sea floor may provide answers to these questions. Please come to hear Dr. Gary Greene, Ph.D, marine gologist and Director of the SeaDoc/Moss Landing Marine Lab's Tombolo Mapping Lab, Orcas Island, Wa, discuss answers to these fascinating and important questions.

Earth Day NW shore traverse at Whistle Lake Hike for all ages 

Saturday Saturday, April 22nd from 10am until noon.

Join friends for an Earth Day gathering in our beautiful Whistle Lake area of the ACFL.  Learn about the history of the day and our community forest lands and the important role we all play in taking care of our community forest in perpetuity. Anticipate lovely wildflowers and great company. Meet at the Whistle Lake Parking lot. This hike is approximately 2.5 miles with some hills and uneven terrain.

Tucked in to the bottom of Sugarloaf lies a sweet trail through ancient trees. Meet at the base of Mount Erie on Ray Auld Drive.

Taking Back Unwanted Prescription Drugs

On Saturday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Anacortes Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its 13th opportunity in 7 years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your pills for disposal to APD at 1218 24th Street. (The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.) The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
