Christmas tree pickup

The annual Christmas tree pickup sponsored by the Kiwanis Noon Club, Kiwanis Sunrisers and the Anacortes High School Key Club begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, January 7.

Trees will be picked up within city limits. Residents are asked to have their trees curbside no later than 8 a.m. Trees need to be free of ornaments, lights, tinsel and flocking. Wreaths must be free of any framing wire. Trees will be recycled for use in the city.

Please leave a donation of nonperishable food for the Salvation Army or a donation to the Key Club. To donate to the club in advance, drop it off or mail to Kiwanis Shop, 420 O Ave., Anacortes, WA 98221.

If your tree has not been picked up by 2 p.m., call the Kiwanis Shop at 360-293-1918 for pickup., In case of severe weather that ay, trees will be picked up Saturdaym January 14.

Veterans Memorial Plaza open for Memorial Day

We invite the community to visit Veterans Memorial Plaza at Seahawk Stadium this Memorial Day, and pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

The plaza will be open to the public from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, May 29. No events are planned; rather we invite the community in for reflection and remembrance. The plaza is comprised of a memorial designed by local architect Brooks Middleton, with input from the Veterans Memorial Committee, as well as a display honoring two Medal of Honor recipients with local connections.

Independence Day Celebrations begins with the Patriotic Community Event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on July 3 at the Heart of Anacortes, the traditional town photo at 10:00 a.m. on July 4 at 5th & Commercial, the parade on July 4 beginning at 11:00 a.m., the Rock the Dock food and music event at Seafarer’s Park at 5:00 p.m. on July 4, and the fireworks show beginning at approximately 10:00 p.m. on July 4.

Celebrate our country's independence with great music, family fun, and fireworks at Rock the Dock! July 4th from 5-10 p.m. at Seafarers' Memorial Park.

There will be a FREE Bounce Castle, FREE face painting, and a FREE art table for the kids. Come enjoy tasty food and beverage vendors, beer garden with beer by Anacortes Brewery and of course fireworks. All proceeds from this year's beer garden will be donated to the Anacortes Family Shelter and The Boy's and Girls Club. Bring your lawn chairs and come join the fun. 

Rock the Dock is FREE - with a suggested donation of a non-perishable food item or donation for the Anacortes Seafarers Memorial Foundation which is dedicated to supporting the families of those men and women who go down to the sea to work, those that are lost and the memorial they are remembered on.
